Welcome to a unique and wonderful part of the United States. The San Juan Islands are located in Puget Sound about halfway between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia and about 5 miles east of Vancouver Island where the capitol of British Columbia, the charming city of Victoria, is located. San Juan County, Washington was established as a part of Washington Territory in 1873. The County consists of 176 named islands and reefs (up to 743 at low tides). San Juan is the smallest of Washington's 39 Counties with approximately 175 square miles of land area and has a population of about 16,000. San Juan County is located in the northwest corner of Washington State. The largest islands in the County are San Juan, Orcas, Lopez, and Shaw. The nearest major population centers are Victoria and Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle, WA. The islands are reached by air or sea, and most commonly by the Washington State Ferries out of Anacortes. The ferries serve Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Orcas, Lopez and Shaw Islands. Waldron, Stuart, Blakely and Decatur Islands also have significant populations although they are only accessible by smaller boats, or by air.

San Juan County draws people from all over the world who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the islands, and experience the special qualities of life in our island communities. The climate is mild and we see more sun and less rain than Seattle. There are many outdoor activities that can be enjoyed year round, and one of the most popular summer activities is whale watching. The bustling town of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island is the seat of San Juan County and the only incorporated town in the county. Many government offices and supporting businesses provide jobs for the residents here. The local island economy as a whole is largely dependent on tourism and in the summer months the ferries bring thousands of visitors to the islands. Request our Free Relocation Package. Financing Your Home >New Loans
If you are considering applying for a mortgage to purchase a new home or to refinance your present home, don't delay. Despite fluctuation in interest rates, lenders are still processing many new loan applications.
You should gather all the necessary paperwork before you apply, and submit your loan application as soon as possible. At a minimum, the information required by a lender will consist of proof of your earnings and a clear picture of your total monthly income and expenses. If you are self-employed, or have long-term obligations such as alimony or child support, the preparation time and the amount of paperwork increases.
Despite the need to move rather quickly for a mortgage in today's market, you should "make haste carefully." Shop carefully for your loan by comparing all costs and terms. With the number of lenders vying for your business, new and better deals are always appearing.
